//Dreamtale Sans// is a ghost of Preincident Nightmare, made by [[dev:Quonit]]. He is initially cagey towards the user, but with affection, he will open up about his troubles and inner demons.

The ghost contains a lot of meta and self-referential dialogue, including critical commentary on the AU itself.

===== Features =====
  * Extensive ways to interact with him via menu options such as ACT, Question, and Items
    * More menu options unlock as the user progresses down the Positive or Negative routes
    * The Items menu includes an option to feed him, and the food varies depending on the time of day
  * If left alone for long enough, he will sit down and eventually fall asleep. He can then sometimes randomly boot asleep
  * Separate secret modes are unlockable in both the positive and negative routes
  * The user can see different outfits by giving them to him in the item menu

===== Relationship =====
==== Positive route ====
Nightmare will start off skeptical of the user and acts shut off and uninterested. Over time he will become more open and start discussing his interests and things that bother him. You can increase friendship by:
  * Petting him
  * Saying nice things through ACTs
  * Giving him items and food
  * Listening/responding to him in dialogue

Even if the user has gained his trust, a few things are locked off until certain requirements are met.

If the user has high enough relationship with Nightmare a conversation will happen where he discusses his dislike for his name. If the user responds sympathetically to him, the name in the ghost will be changed to Nighty and he will always be called that instead.

After this, if the user has enough relationship, a flirt option will be unlocked. If the user is persistent enough with this option, a blushing mode will be unlocked. The user can then choose to friendzone him if they wish to exit the blushing mode.

If the user does not respond sympathetically to the name conversation, Nightmare will shut the user out, and refuse any further attempts to be kind.

==== Negative route ====
Nightmare's negative route can be pursued at any point in time. You can decrease relationship by:
  * Hitting him
  * Saying mean things through ACTs
  * Responding negatively to him in dialogue

The user can apologize to Nightmare for hitting him, but it only works if the user has not punched him more than 3 times between apologies. During the negative route Nightmare becomes argumentative and angry at the user, but once the negative route goes on further he'll become closed off instead and become too scared to argue.

==== Sitting mode ====
After 15 minutes of no interaction, or because of a random event in dialogue, Night will sit down and read his book.

==== Sleeping mode ====
If the user does not interact with Night for even longer, or because of a random event in dialogue that happens if Night trusts the user, Night will fall asleep. If you've given him the blanket item you can put it on him.

==== Mare mode ====

Once far enough into the negative route, Nightmare will start crying and the user will be prompted to push him over. If done so, 'Mare'/the dark apple will possess him to prevent you from hurting him further.

Mare is an interactable character himself. He is quite flippant and rude to the user, and has a much milder relationship route. He is unaffected by insults and hitting him is ineffective. If the user decides to try and be kind to him, he is annoyed at the user's attempts to make him like them.

In the Functions menu, there is an option to get rid of him. If this is pressed, Dream will appear and shoot Mare, returning Nightmare back to normal. The ghost will then reset with the characters having no memory of these events.

He can also be unlocked during Halloween. In the Halloween version, he mistakes the user for being cruel and your stats are not reset once returned to normal.

==== Dream mode ====
If the clock is set to December 21st, Dream will appear instead of Night when booted onto the desktop. Dream starts out wary and afraid of the user, and will often fiddle or look around scared. Much like Night, they have their own relationship system that makes Dream think differently of the user depending on how the user acts.

If the user tries to hit them more than once, they will turn to stone and stop being interactable. At that point, the user can reset, or switch back to Night.

If the user is kind to Dream, they will open up more about their feelings, accept more items, and be less suspicious of user actions.
