Dusty and Obsidian

Listed here are standard banners that can be used across the wiki. Each one lists the code needed to display that banner in a page. For example: {{page>wiki:banners#Download Missing}}

Banners should be placed immediately after the title of a page, before any article content.

Download Missing

The content on this page is no longer available to download. It is preserved here for posterity, new downloads should not be created without the permission of the original developer.

{{page>wiki:banners#Download Missing}}

This banner is used to indicate creations that no longer have a working download link. This should not be used for ghosts that never had a public link in the first place; such ghosts are not eligible for pages.

If the original developer provides a new download link, this banner can be removed. New downloads/mirrors should not be created without the permission of the original developer.

Pages with this banner should also be tagged with .

Content Warning

The creation featured on this page contains one or more content warnings indicated by the developer(s). Sensitive content may be reflected on this page. Please check the content warning at the top of the article and proceed with caution.

{{page>wiki:banners#Content Warning}}

This banner is used to indicate that a page has a content warning. If this banner is included on a page, the content warnings should be listed at the top of the page, before any other article text. In the page code, they should be placed under the info box if one exists. Example:

====== Ghost Name ======
{{page>wiki:banners#Content Warning}} /*Banner goes here*/

Old Wiki Page

This page was created before the style guide was in place, and should not be used as an example of the desired wiki style. Please read the style guide carefully, and refer to the example pages given before editing this page. This banner should be removed once this article is rewritten to conform with the style guide.

{{page>wiki:banners#Old Wiki Page}}

This banner is similar to the above, but is reserved for pages imported from the original UDT wiki. When the last of these pages have been overhauled, this banner will be removed.

Spoiler Warning

This page contains content considered to be spoilers. Please check the spoiler warnings at the top of the article and proceed with caution.

{{page>wiki:banners#Spoiler Warning}}

This banner is used to indicate that a page has a spoiler warning for media outside of the ghost itself. For example, a ghost with spoilers for Undertale would get a banner, but a page that contains spoiler content for the ghost itself would not get a banner.

If this banner is included on a page, the spoiler warnings should be listed at the top of the page, before any other article text, but after any content warnings. In the page code, they should be placed under the info box if one exists. Example:

====== Ghost Name ======
{{page>wiki:banners#Spoiler Warning}} /*Banner goes here*/

Dusty and Obsidian is an Undertale based ghost by Zichqec. They were released on August 1st, 2020, and are currently on version 1.0.9, with plans for a major update soon. They come with a unique balloon called Void Screen.

Dusty is an interpretation of the Undertale character W.D. Gaster, and Obsidian is his cat who stays with him in the void. This ghost touches on topics related to death and dying, as well as loss. Please be mindful if that is not your cup of tea.

Dusty's Features

  • Dusty's main function, besides being a companion, is to teach you Wingdings. He does so in a variety of ways:
    • He has a selection of written lessons with mnemonics to help you remember each symbol. These cover upper and lower case, as well as the most common punctuation marks.
    • He has a selection of games that can be played that challenge the user's Wingdings skills. These include…
      • Translation challenge, where the user is shown a word in Wingdings and asked to write the translation.
      • Who's That Wingding, where Dusty describes a Wingding and the user has to write the correct one.
      • Match the Wingdings, where the user is shown a letter and asked to pick the Wingding that represents it from a random selection of Wingdings.
      • Hangman, where the user is challenged to complete a hangman word that's shown in Wingdings.
      • Note that he has a category system for choosing the words to use in the games, with options you can toggle on and off. He has a custom category option, you can add your own words!
      • You can also pick which cases he uses, and if he'll use numbers and punctuation.
    • He has two modes for changing his own dialogue to Wingdings:
      • Wingdings practice mode, where he will change some of the words in his dialogue based on the difficulty the user picks.
        • Translation tooltips can be turned on in this mode, where hovering over a word will display its translation.
      • Wingdings Only mode, where he will change (almost) all of his dialogue into Wingdings.
    • Any of the above features except the written lessons can be done with any cipher font you want! Within his Wingdings menu is an option to change him to any font you have installed on your computer.
  • Dusty also comes with some handy tools for translating Wingdings, even if you do not wish to learn to read them yourself. These include:
    • A Wingdings Chart, which displays all Wingdings and their corresponding characters side-by-side.
    • An option to translate text into Wingdings, and an option to screenshot it afterwards (Only works on primary monitors).
    • An option to translate text out of Wingdings, via a panel of clickable Wingdings, and an option to screenshot it afterwards (Only works on primary monitors).
  • He also has more general features, such as…
    • Some options for gushing to him or confiding in him.
    • A hug generator.
    • A menu for calling other ghosts.
    • A menu for asking about certain other ghosts he's talked to (though there are plans to expand this feature later)
    • If you drag Obsidian onto him, he will pick her up and hold her for a while. You will not be able to access his menu during this, but if you click him enough times Obsidian will jump down.
  • Dusty also has the standard ghost features, including…
    • Setting a picture as your wallpaper.
      • Supports png files, and spanning an image across multiple monitors if you're running Windows 10.
    • Emptying the Recycle Bin.
    • Reading RSS feeds.
    • Fixing your system time.
    • Checking for new emails.
      • Listing the headers of new emails, if there are less than 100.
    • Showing your system information.
  • In addition, Dusty has some extra features, including…
    • Checking the weather.
      • Also keeps track of the moon phase!
    • Automatically checking for updates once a day.
    • Displaying a changelog of all his previous updates.
    • Mentioning how long your computer has been running.
    • Changeable hemisphere setting so that he can display appropriate dialogue during the seasons.

Obsidian's Features

  • She's a cat.
  • Is cute.
  • Wants your treats.
  • Loves(?) you.
  • You can boop her toe beans if her leggy is sticking up.
  • You can earn G through playing Dusty's Wingdings games, then spend it buying her treats and toys!
  • She will get annoyed if you open her menu and then close it without doing anything.
  • You can tell her how pretty she is.
  • You can ask for her opinion (Magic 8 ball).
  • You can confide in her (she may ignore you, talk to Dusty if you need support).
  • Meows a lot at everyone.
  • Sometimes claws up your files.
  • Can be picked up by multiple ghosts!

Ghosts that can hold Obsidian

Obsidian can be picked up and held by multiple other ghosts! Simply drag and drop her onto an appropriate ghost, and marvel at her beauty and grace. If the other dev has added support, you should be able to pet her as normal and it will keep track of your stats! If you're a ghost dev interested in having your ghost hold Obsidian, check out the guide on Zichqec's website. Here is a list of known ghosts that can hold Obsidian:

Sometimes this feature can be a little buggy. If you're having trouble with a ghost holding Obsidian, make sure both ghosts are up to date, and try reloading them.
