————— What is Ghost Jam? —————
Ghost Jam is an annual event where participants are challenged to make a brand new ghost within a week! It is not a competition, but rather a way to challenge yourself to see how much you can get done in such a short amount of time. And, we all love to see more ghosts being released!
Participants that successfully release a ghost within the rules and timeframe of the jam will be awarded with the @🎖Ghost Jam 2022 badge, and will have their ghost promoted on our Tumblr blog as a part of the jam!
————— Rules —————
• You may not work on your ghost outside the specified timeframe.
• You may work solo, or team up with others. We recommend teams of 3 to cover the triad of essential ghost dev skills (programming/writing/art), but your team can be any size you like.
○ If you're looking for teammates, try #🈺collab_help_wanted and #↪reply_collab!
○ You may only be on one team at a time.
• Submissions must be posted to the ghost_download_links channel by the end of the jam. They must include a mention of being for the jam, credits to everyone who worked on the ghost, and must list any additional challenges that the ghost has met.
• You can either start your ghost from scratch, or use a
publicly available template from the list of approved templates below. You may also use
free, publicly available premade assets as a part of your ghost.
— Premade Assets —
This year we are testing out allowing premade assets! Please look over the guidelines below carefully.
What's allowed:
• You may use code from the #free_code_snippets channel, assets (such as freeshells) found in #dev_resources, and any art/writing assets found in the #Free Assets for Ghost Jam thread. You may also use code assets from any of the approved templates.
• Balloons are not considered a part of your ghost for the purposes of jam, so you may include premade balloons with your ghost. If you are making a balloon, you may also use things such as premade fonts in them.
• You may use premade assets for
any area of your ghost (programming/writing/art), but only
one of these areas may be
completely premade assets.
○ A ghost must meet 2/3 of the below requirements to be considered a valid jam submission:
• At least 1 new image
• At least 10 new lines of script
• At least one instance of new code (Shell code counts, basic implementation of free assets or minor adjustments to existing template code does not)
What's not allowed:
• Assets from existing ghosts that are
not approved templates, whether those ghosts are publicly released or not, are not permissible to use for jam. Premade assets
must be from the appropriate channels or templates.
— Approved Templates —
These are the templates we have approved for use in this jam. If you know of another
publicly available template that you would like to use for the jam, please let a @Moderator know so that we can add it to this list! Templates that are not listed here are not permissible to use.
• GT Ghost Template
http://ashido.com/ukagaka/
• X. Template
https://zichqec.github.io/s-the-skeleton/xtemplate
• bad russian template
https://smokycinnamon.github.io/indifferentsorrel/templates
• Konno Yayame
http://ms.shillest.net/yayame.xhtml
• Minimum YAYA Template
https://zichqec.github.io/s-the-skeleton/resources
• Ghost Kit
http://sgmh.sakura.ne.jp/tcg/kit/
When using a template, please remember that they are here to provide a basic code framework and help you figure out where you should be putting your script/images. If you are looking to use the art/writing assets of a template as-is, check the readme of the
latest version of that template for additional permissions. If no permissions are given, assume that it is not permissible to use the shell and dialogue as an intentional part of your ghost.
————— Theme and Challenges —————
Looking for an additional challenge? This year, we are testing out a theme and some challenges! These are all
completely optional, and you can ignore them entirely if you like. Or, feel free to try out any combination of them, to create a challenge that suits you!
No additional badges will be rewarded for completing any of these, though completion of the challenges will get your ghost a special note on our wiki.
— Theme —
This year's theme is:
Disaster
Interpret this in any way you like!
— 72 Hour Challenge —
Submit your ghost within the first 72 hours of the jam! How much can you get done in only 3 days?
— New Assets Only —
Create your ghost from scratch or using only a template, with no additional premade assets. Everything has to be made fresh!
————— Timeframe —————
This jam will begin on
Friday, May 6th, at 12AM EST, and end on
Thursday, May 12th, at 11:59PM EST.

————— Other Notes —————
Once the jam is done, we will create a post on our Tumblr blog about it, showing off all the ghosts that were created, and linking to the folks who made them! We will direct folks to join our Discord for any ghosts that do not have a public download. We also use images of the ghosts from previous jams to advertise future jams.
If you do not want your ghost included in these sorts of posts, please get in contact with a @Moderator!
If you would like your completed ghost to get a page on our WIP wiki, make sure you release it somewhere beyond this server! You can post it to social media, or create a webpage for it, whatever you like; just so long as it can be downloaded without joining the server. (Or, talk to a mod about creating a wiki page to serve as the public release!)
Any questions? Let a @Moderator know in 🈸community_feedback!
